The contrast
| R dermatology
The architectural design employs a gentle arch-shaped ceiling to define the main reception and lounge area. This ceiling design not only adds a sense of elegance and spaciousness but also creates a unique visual identity for the clinic. Beneath this ceiling, a continuous travertine stone landscape forms key elements such as the main counter and bench plinth. This use of travertine stone provides a tactile and visual contrast to the smooth, curved ceiling above, enhancing the overall aesthetic experience for visitors. The continuous interplay between the stone landscape and the arched ceiling creates a dynamic and engaging environment.
At the far end of the space, adjacent to the main window that opens up to the urban scenery, a woven grid pattern of solid metal screen doors serves as a backdrop. These doors not only frame the view but also act as a buffer, providing privacy and a sense of separation from the bustling exterior. Positioned behind the main counter, these doors also function as access points to shelving, integrating utility with design seamlessly.
The project’s material palette and conceptual foundation are rooted in the juxtaposition of travertine stone and textured plaster, embodying the theme of raw versus refined. This deliberate contrast is further enhanced by the introduction of objects made from raw stainless steel, which, despite their raw material, are finished with refined details. This blend of materials adds a contemporary freshness to the space, making it both inviting and sophisticated.
The medical rooms and office areas are designed as clean, white box rooms. These spaces are equipped with built-in white furniture, complemented by Carrara marble tops, which add a touch of luxury while maintaining a calm and relaxing environment.
R Dermatology’s design reflects a careful balance between form and function, natural and urban elements, and raw and refined materials. The thoughtful architectural details and material choices create a welcoming and serene atmosphere for patients and staff alike, making it a standout example of contemporary clinic design in Seoul.
